Addressing Forestry Concerns:

Jefferson County is approximately 55 percent forested. Due to a large amount of timber harvesting, and based on the need to better educate local logging professionals about House Bill 88 and Section 208 of the Federal Clean Water Act, The Steel Valley Loggers Chapter was founded in 1999. The group includes logging professionals representing five counties. With the assistance of the Jefferson SWCD, DeNoon Lumber, the Ohio Division of Forestry, and the Ohio Forestry Association, members meet quarterly to discuss local and state forestry issues.

Key Benefits

  • Provides members with direct access to OFA logging standards determined by the Logging Standards Council

  • Develops opportunities for Best Management Practices certification

  • Provides a non-confrontational forum for loggers, local officials, and citizens to become more educated about the logging industry and its issues.

  • Creates a more conservation conscious logging community and world.
