Salt Calibration Workshop

A group of workers, including some in safety vests, gather around equipment for a discussion or demonstration outdoors.
Jefferson County Engineer Office employees calibrating a salt hopper on an Island Creek Township truck.

Employees and Trustees from Wintersville, Island Creek Township, Cross Creek Township, and Ross Township participated in this year’s Salt Spreader Calibration Workshop held in partnership with the Jefferson County Engineer’s Office. Attendees learned about snow & ice treatment rates, discussed salt brine systems, reviewed pre-trip checklists, and had their plow trucks calibrated for winter. Calibrating salt spreading equipment helps reduce chloride pollution in our local waters, while helping highway departments reduce over-application of salt.

Thank you to those who participated, and a special thanks to the Jefferson County Engineer’s Office for partnering with the Jefferson SWCD to bring this program back for a second year.
